چکیده

The vibrational spectra of the Si(111)-(1 × 1) surface covered with a mixture of halides and hydrogen are explored using computational techniques with experimental validation. We have investigated the relationship between the Si-H stretching mode and halide coverage for fluorine, chlorine, bromine, and iodine. Our investigation shows that the blue shift of the ν(Si-H) mode is approximately linear with respect to the halide coverage. Our predictions using density functional calculations are validated using experimental results on a ∼30% fluorinated surface. The origin of the shift is proposed to be an inductive effect along with lone pair donation from the halogen to the silicon surface. Our results indicate it is possible to use the ν(Si-H) mode as a probe to measure halide coverage. Our results agree with earlier studies on analogous systems.

A Density Functional Approach toward Structural Features and Properties of C20 and its Complexes with C2X4, C2X2 (X = H, F, Cl, Br) for Synthesis Application

The complexes between C20 and C2 X4 , C2 X2 (X = H, F, Cl, Br) have been studied theoretically at the B3LYP/6-311G (d,p) level. The calculations include the optimized geometries, the interaction energies, aromaticity and thermodynamic. The interaction energies ranging from -60 to -101 kcal/mol and being ordered as: X = F> Cl > Br. Natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis has been performed on all ge...

Reactivity and aromaticity of hexasiline derivatives Si6XH5 (X = H, F, Cl, Br, COOH, NO2, NH2, CH3 and tBu)

During recent years, the silicon organic-inorganic compounds play the key role in medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical industry. This is because of their similar chemical properties with carbon compounds. The second reason is related to their easy transfer from the cell membranes. So, molecular simulation and study the properties of novel organosilicon compounds can be more important. From th...

Transmission infrared spectroscopy of methyl- and ethyl-terminated silicon(111) surfaces.

Transmission infrared spectroscopy (TIRS) has been used to investigate the surface-bound species formed in the two-step chlorination/alkylation reaction of crystalline (111)-oriented Si surfaces. Spectra were obtained after hydrogen termination, chlorine termination, and reaction of the Cl-Si(111) surface with CH(3)MgX or C(2)H(5)MgX (X = Cl, Br) to form methyl (CH(3))- or ethyl (C(2)H(5))-term...

Competitive halogenation of silicon surfaces in HBr/Cl2 plasmas studied with x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and in situ, real-time, pulsed laser-induced thermal desorption

Using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy ~XPS! and real-time, laser-induced thermal desorption– laser-induced fluorescence ~LD–LIF!, we have determined the coverage of Br and Cl on Si~100! surfaces that are etched in mixed HBr/Cl2 plasmas. Halogen coverages measured by XPS after etching are directly proportional to the fraction of the respective halogen in the feed gas. LD–LIF was detected from S...
